The True Blues and Gospel

STCD 002
The music contained in this CD is a reissue of recordings originally released in the USA on Adelphi Records as AD 1001, Mike Stewart (aka Backwards Sam Firk) "True Blues and Gospel" in 1968. It includes two bonus tracks from a later album (AD 1006) plus one unissued selection entitled "Saturday Night Friction".
Back in the 1960s, Mike Stewart was considered a premier guitar player for his time. He had learned directly from the likes of Mississippi John Hurt, Rev. Robert Wilkins and others. In learning the blues, if you hear good, you play good, but you have to understand the culture in order to capture the feel for the sound. In listening to Mike Stewart's version of songs like "Candy Man" and "Fixin To Die", you can hear that he had learned his lessons well. His finger-picking is clean and his thumb is solid.
