Stella Records was first formed in 1993. The label was started to offer recording opportunities to unknown and established artists. Initially, our focus was on acoustic blues and roots music.
We signed Michael Roach from Washington, D.C. and his debut CD 'Ain't Got Me No Home' (STCD 001) was well received. We later licensed a recording from Adelphi Records by Backwards Sam Firk, 'The True Blues and Gospel' (STCD 002) in 1994. We branched into the R&B market when we licensed the entire catalogue of Dayco Records for the release of 'The Rhythm & Blues of Dayco Records' (STCD 004) in 1997.
We followed up with 3 more acoustic releases from Michael Roach, 'The Blinds Of Life' (STCD 003) in 1997, 'Good News Blues' (STCD 005) in 2000 and 'Cypress Grove' (STCD 007) in 2003.
We released a 'live' recording by the great acoustic bluesman, Larry Johnson in 2004 with 'The Gentle Side Of Larry Johnson' (STCD 006). In 2005, Abie Budgen's debut album, 'How Chakori Found The Moon & Other Stories' (STCD 008) presented us with an opportunity to work with a talented singer/songwriter and guitarist who has a very bright future.
In November 2006, we released the soulful sounds of the big 8 piece Michael Roach Band. It's called 'I Betcha!' STCD 009). January 2008, we released 'Weeping Willow' (STCD 010) by Abie Budgen.
Our next release will take place in January 2010 when we introduce 'Innocent Child' (STCD 011) by Michael Roach.
